Even though it may lag behind WhatsApp in terms of users base marginally, it still has a lot of applications, other than communicating with people.
Calculator
Ever been in a middle of a conversation where you wanted to quickly calculate something? With Telegram, you can calculate in the middle of a chat. For example, “3+3 @calcubot”.
Notepad
Since version 3.11 of Telegram, you can start a chat with yourself. This can be used as a place for storing your notes, to-do lists, pictures, directions, texts, and voice clips.
The app also provides options to filter messages by hashtag, or particular calendar dates. These hashtags can also be used to categorize lists and reminders.
Telegram Cloud
Telegram Cloud, is not like the other cloud services such as Google Drive and Dropbox. Once you share files with yourself as shown in the last “Notepad” point, you can access them anytime from any other new devices on which you install Telegram.
Mini-Games
Since Telegram 3.13 it has become possible to play mini-games in your chats. This can be done by typing “@gamebot” or “@gamee”. Also, these games are lightweight, and do not download as separate APKs which add weight to the app. On top of that, these games can be great for continuing and starting new conversations.
GIF Search Engine
Graphics Interchange Format, or in the terms of normal people, GIFs have become pretty popular since the past few years due to their animated appeal. Using Telegram, you can surf through a lot of them, available at a tap of your finger.
To do this, type “@gif” followed by any subject, such as the one shown in the screenshot below.
Using The Secret Chat Option
While in general chat, your chat will be available on any device on which Telegram is setup with your number, in secret chat option, only the two parties involved can see the chat, with the end-to-end encryption.
A secret chat can be started with one of your contacts by opening Telegram’s menu and selecting the “new secret chat” option
Broadcasting to multiple people at once
Among the other most impressive features of Telegram, is the ability to broadcast messages to unlimited contacts on a single channel. This can very well be used to share a message with all of your clients, all at once, which is way more personal and intimate than an email.
Sending over large files
Often the biggest restriction with sending files on the internet, is size. Most email services allow you to send data of less than 100 MB. While you can use other cloud services to share these files, Telegram makes it easy to share them, allowing file size of 1.5GB for any file type, be it videos, music, zip files etc.
